Coronavirus – Update on a curse that keeps giving

Coronavirus started off late December – at least to most in the outside world – general public does not know exactly when and where it was identified. We have been doing our best to do biased reporting and keeping the death tolls and the number of overall cases over the past 2 weeks. Coronavirus has become a gift that keeps giving. Even compiling these lists, updating the awesome map we have that shows the number of cases and deaths overall so far – has been truly painful.

However, there does not seem to be an end, nor do we seem to be slowing down. Many epidemiologists and scientists predicted the exponential growth of the number of cases that the world will see since the early days. The number of cases being reported daily overall, is following that pattern and this is truly getting distressing.

The total number of people infected in the China mainland as of today – Jan 31st 9:00 PM EST which translates to 10AM Saturday – Feb 1st in China – is 11791.

The official number of people suspected – 18000

Total death toll attributed to Coronavirus is : 259 which marks around 50 new deaths in the last 24 hours.

One can only wish that these are true numbers – there are multiple rumors floating on twitter, and local chinese news outlets that the suspected numbers may be as high as 100,000 and that is why China is racing the epidemic to build the large hospitals. One has to wonder what’s waiting for humanity over the next few days…
